Om oss
Hi! My name is Karin Granå, and I am the organizer and owner of Stavanger Kids Sale. I am originally from the U.S. (Atlanta is my hometown), but I have a Norwegian husband, and we are settled permanently in Norway.
Back in 2008, as a mother of young children, I found that we were rapidly accumulating stuff for our kids that they quickly outgrew. At that time in Stavanger, there were not many options for buying and selling gently used children's products. I felt strongly that Stavanger needed an event in which families could both earn and save money by selling and buying used children's items--and be kind to the environment at the same time. I wanted to draw upon my years of experience organizing events in both the US and Norway to make this big event happen in Stavanger.
In the autumn of 2008, I started to plan our first sale at Madla bydelshus. The first sale took place in January 2009, and has been held twice a year (March and September) ever since (with the exception of September 2012, when I was on maternity leave). The sale has grown beyond my wildest expectations, and we now have 250 sellers and over 25,000 items at each sale! We have even inspired others to start sales of their own. We started using the My Consignment Manager system (from the U.S.) in 2013--we are proud to be the first to use the system in Norway!
All along, I have been determined to make the sale a real community event. It is open to everyone--anyone can sell, volunteer, or shop at the sale. We have a fantastic group of 100+ volunteers who really give their all to make this event happen, and we have fun working together.
One thing that sets us apart is the huge variety of items and brands you can find at the sale. Lots of Expats participate in the sale, and they have brought with them clothes, toys, books, and equipment that are not available or are difficult to find in Norway. Here’s your chance to find toys and clothing brands you’d otherwise have to travel outside the country to find. We also have a large selection of books for kids and adults in English, Norwegian, and other languages.
I encourage you to get involved with the sale--we'd love to have you! This website has lots of information for sellers, volunteers, and shoppers alike. See you at the sale!
